The road to Net Zero – Infranode launches 2024 Sustainability report

At Infranode, we have committed to work towards reaching Net Zero by 2040, or sooner. We are glad to present our 2024 Sustainability report: The Road to Net Zero. This year, we have made important progress in implementing Net Zero roadmaps across our portfolio.

To introduce the key accomplishments with our Net Zero roadmaps, our Head of Sustainability Julia Holm Kosulko shares her key insights from 2024.

How has the commitment to Net Zero been reflected in your work during 2024?
2024 was characterised by building a structured approach to our Net Zero commitment. We developed an in-house methodology for Net Zero roadmaps, fostering an action-oriented approach. Convinced that our portfolio companies are best equipped to identify local opportunities, we have supported them through expert-led workshops.

What has been the focus for Infranode’s portfolio companies during 2024?
Our goal entering 2024 was to facilitate development of Net Zero roadmaps by our portfolio companies, which in turn would be approved by their respective boards. We are proud that this rigorous work has been successful – all companies that began the process in 2024 now have Net Zero roadmaps in place.

Have there been any unexpected learnings in the process of creating individual portfolio roadmaps?
Given our diversified portfolio across sectors, each asset follows a unique path – with varying emission profiles, business models and solutions for reducing emissions. This diversity has required tailored dialogues, respecting each asset’s specific circumstances and challenges. Recognising the effort needed for new portfolio companies to establish sustainability governance and data practices, we decided to give them space to focus on developing their roadmaps in 2025, once the foundations for this work had been laid in 2024.

Reflecting on 2024, what key insights will Infranode bring into the 2025 process?
The roadmap is not the destination; it is the vehicle that takes us towards Net Zero. Decarbonising infrastructure requires investment and sustained action over time. Some decarbonisation projects, such as carbon capture and storage, can take up to a decade to move from concept to full operation. We continue to emphasise the implementing of identified actions, rather than data precision or overly detailed planning. We follow up on these actions through board work, and plan to revisit the developed roadmaps within a year. Some portfolio companies will further develop their Net Zero roadmaps in 2025, so we will use the learnings from 2024 as stepping stones in supporting them.
